Tucked away, down a side street, behind Holy Trinity Church, is one of Sunderland's best kept secrets...the oldest schoolhouse in the city, built in 1798 to educate 36 girls from the Workhouse opposite.

Year 6 visit Nissan - Monozukuri Caravan Workshop
Year 6 visited Nissan, to take part in hands-on workshops exploring Japanese culture and the technical processes involved in car making. Monozukuri is the the Japanese term for ‘the art of making things’.
Nostalgia - flashback to 2002-2003 - new GPS building takes shape!
Recently discovered - photos collated & placed in a scrapbook by the then Headteacher, showing the building of the new GPS, and the start of the demolition of the old building.

The School Council chose a winner from each class and those lucky children received a chocolate Easter Egg as a prize.
Harvest Festival Assembly - October 2016
The hall was packed, and every class sang beautifully. Our families were generous in their donations of food - all passed on to a local food bank. Well done everyone!

Our 4th annual Spanish Day was amazing - dance, drama, food, music, art, storytelling....and two fantastic assemblies to start & end the day! Well done everyone - Bien hecho!

Year 5 Greek Day
The children were dressed as Greek soldiers, Gods and Goddesses. They built a Greek temple, learned about the Ancient Greek number system, and tasted Greek foods such as feta cheese, olives and Greek yogurt.

Year 5 Writing Group working with author
Our year 5 writing group enjoyed their workshops with local author & illustrator, Laura Smith. They produced this gorgeous book, based around the theme of space.
Year 1 work with No Limits Theatre!

Yr 5 worked with digital arts company 'Abandon Normal Devices', using virtual reality headsets to experience the world as woodland creatures experience it!

Writing Award Winners!
Meet the winners of our Spring Term Writing Awards. The Awards are based on effort and improvement in Writing. This round of Award winners were chosen at the end of Spring Term, and the presentations and Book Launch took place in early Summer Term.
Our Run for Sports Relief - 23 March 2016

Dance Workshop Day - Tuesday 2nd February 2016
Yrs 2 & 3 enjoyed day of dance, based around 'numbers', with students from Sunderland University. After watching a stunning performance, each class took part in their own workshop.

GPS Writing Award - Spring 2015
Our Writing Awards are held termly, recognising improvement and special effort in writing. Each award winner (2 per class) receives a Certificate and a pen or pencil, in an Assembly. All of the writing is displayed in school. We also make a book, which we publish and place in the library and in classrooms. A Book Launch is held, to which parents & carers are invited.
Year 6 wowed us all with their amazing performances in Aladdin! They worked incredibly hard over a 2 week period to prepare for the show. The Choir were brilliant too! It was fantastic to welcome back Mrs Davies, our amazing Performing Arts teacher.

Writing Award Winners - Autumn Term 2014
Towards the end of every term, we present our Writing Awards. These Awards are for improvement and special effort in writing. The pieces of writing chosen for each round of Awards are displayed in school. We will also use the writing to make a book, which we then publish and place in the school library and in every classroom.

Fiesta Espanola - Spanish Day - July 2014
Our 2nd annual Spanish Day was a great success! It was a celebration of another year of learning Spanish, and once again we were supported by our friends from Vamos! Dance, music, art, food...and even a big parade at the end!
'The Great Outdoors' Parent Workshop
Years 2 and 4 invited their parents and carers into school, for a Learning Workshop to mark the end of their very successful joint topic: The Great Outdoors. Everyone enjoyed completing the challenges around the school site.

Our talented young musicians - plus our Choir and our 'year 2 Spanish singers' - performed for the whole school, with parents and carers in attendance too. The hall was packed! It was a fabulous event, and everyone was very impressed with how much progress the children have made.

Even though the school doesn't have a chimney, Father Christmas still managed to get in! Every child in Nursery, Reception, year 1 and year 2 received a little gift from Santa. As you can see, everyone was very excited!

Our Reception children visited Hendon Library on Tuesday 24th September for the very last time before this fantastic place closes its doors.
It was international Talk Like a Pirate Day and we celebrated this by participating in various activities throughout the day. This is a group of children making pirate 'x marks the spot' biscuits.

Derwent Hill Adventure 2013!
Our annual adventure in the Lake District, for years 4, 5 & 6. Great fun was had by all. Huge thanks to our magnificent staff, who gave up their weekends to ensure the children had an absolutely fantastic time! A big thankyou too to Mrs Miller for once again doing a brilliant job organising this very special trip! Well Done everyone!
Reading in unusual (& safe) places! A photo competition for World Book Day.
On the afternoon of World Book Day, older and younger children visited each others classrooms. They had a lovely time sharing books and reading together.
Our 'Katie' Themed Week
Our Autumn 2012 'themed-week' was based on the Katie series of books by James Mayhew. The week was designed to promote writing and art. We worked with Rachel from Bigfoot Arts, and with local author Laura Smith. Everyone had a fantastic time: high-quality learning, generated within an engaging and meaningful context.
Even though we haven’t got a chimney, and even though he is (of course!) very, very, very busy, Santa was determined not to miss his annual visit to Grangetown. After all, our children have behaved perfectly this term (as always!), and certainly deserved to meet Father Christmas.
Trees and Mud!
Our year 3, 4 and 5 classes each visited East Hetton Woods in Durham, to plan trees and learn about conservation. These visits were organised through our link with the Woodland Trust.
The Very Hopeless Camel - Nativity 2012.
A heart-warming retelling of the traditional Nativity, interlaced with the story of a lovable camel, who has no sense of direction and always gets lost! After a series of misadventures, 'The Very Hopeless Camel' accidentally meets Baby Jesus in the stable at Bethlehem, and becomes the happiest, most hopeful camel ever!
Our Christmas Show for 2012 - Cinderella! Starring years 5 and 6, brilliantly backed by our Choir (years 3-6).
Erik the Viking visits GPS!
Our year 3 children are learning about the Vikings. They spent a day with Erik, to learn about Viking customs, crafts and how to be a soldier!

Despite the looming clouds, the rain stayed away, and we all had a great time at our Summer Fayre! The Fayre was opened by our Choir (with 3 'Annie' songs), and then everyone set about the important business of bargain hunting, playing games at one of the many stalls, having their face painted, or indulging their need for cakes or ice-cream!
