French

Bonjour et bienvenue!

Hello everybody and welcome to Virtual French with Madame Blackett and Thierry Tricolore!

We will be posting activities, videos and recommended web pages to help you learn French.

To begin with, there are some activities below which are appropriate for our children from year 1 to year 6. Follow the instructions on the attachment for your year group. Bonne Chance!

Key Stage 1

For our children in years 1 and 2, Thierry would like you to sing a song and try your best to teach an adult so they can join in. There is also a creative activity to try.

Key Stage 2

Years 3 and 4: Take a look at the story 'Maman' by Mario Ramos and see if you can use the story we have been reading 'Ours Brun, dis-moi' to help you to draw a room in your house with some of the animals inside.

Years 5 and 6: Your task is to choose a French-speaking country (there are quite a few). Create a fact file about the country which will be interesting to someone who does not know anything about 'La Francophonie' (French-speaking countries around the world). There is also a reading activity to test your knowledge of flags.

Week 2

Bonjour tout le monde! Madame Blackett and Thierry Tricolore are here to give you some more ideas to continue with your French. This week, we have found some wonderful videos to enjoy.

All of our children will have fun watching this video of a boy who speaks French and English, so he is bilingual. He is making 'brochette de fruits' with his mum. See how many different types of fruit you recognise. Maybe you could try making your own 'brochette de fruits' with an adult.

Brochette de Fruits

Our French friend, Nathalie Paris has been making her own videos to offer a daily challenge to primary aged children. Nathalie has visited us at GPS several times so it will be lovely for our children to see a familiar face.

This is a fun video to remind our younger children in years 1 and 2 of the names of colours in French. Perhaps you can show someone else the actions we have been learning to help us remember the names of colours.

Bobo and Lulu Teach French Colours

For our children in years 3 and 4, we have an interesting activity which is based on the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Children can produce their own simple French mini book after watching this video about a hungry monster. Madame Blackett would love to see your finished mini books when we are back at school!

Le monstre a faim

Years 5 and 6 can watch this film explaining what someone in France would eat for breakfast. It is all in French but don't let that put you off as I know you will be able to understand. There are lots of pictures to help too.

We hope you can find something which is interesting to you. Try to watch the video with someone else, it is always nice to show someone what you know in another language. Above all, have fun!
