Autumn 1
Our topic in the first half of Autumn Term will be 'Me, Myself and I'.
Our trip to Backhouse Park
Reception had an excellent time on our trip to Backhouse Park to look for signs of Autumn. We also had a fun time playing on the park with our friends. We walked so sensibly to get to the park. Well done Reception. Miss Holyoak and Miss Pickering are very proud!
Autumn 2
Reception have had a fantastic half term. We loved our special trip to Fuzzy Ed's in December and have really enjoyed the festivities. We have learned all about Stickman in our core story and also read One Snowy Night. We have enjoyed Halloween and Christmas celebrations, which has given us lots of writing and maths opportunities. We have also made some beautiful cards, calendars and baubles. We have loved playing in the snow in December and learning about the seasons. We have also been very excited by our stick insects hatching! What an amazing half term.
Please see the Stickman story read aloud by Julia Donaldson.
Spring 1
This half term Reception have been learning about Superheroes. We have focussed on the book Supertato Veggies assemble. We have looked at the reasons why the veggies are heroes and what makes someone a 'hero'. We have wrote some describing words for the book characters Evil Pea and Supertato. Evil Pea has played lots of tricks on us! We are also looking at famous superheroes such as 'Spiderman' and 'Batman'. We are also going to look at everyday superheroes and people who help us, such as police, nurses and firefighters.
Marvellous Maths
I have been very impressed with the children's progress in maths at the moment. Look at our amazing 'Number Staircases' we made independently after using our Mastering Number scheme. We have very good understanding of number and adding one more each time.
Phonics Superstars
Reception have been working very hard in phonics lessons. We have learned so many sounds and the children are applying this in their writing. We have also been working so hard to remember our High Frequency Words, which appear very often in our Monster Phonics reading books.
Here is a link to the High Frequency words, if you would like to practice online-
