Year 6 have worked extremely hard to prepare for their performance of Aladdin. They have worked with our specialist performing arts teacher, Mrs Davies and have put one hundred percent effort into all rehearsals. Their performance was incredible and showcased their talents beautifully. I am extremely proud of all of the children.
Year 6 were very excited to receive their leavers hoodies. They have worked really hard during their time in Year 6 and have been looking forward to this day. We are very grateful to the parents group for funding them for the children. They are very excited to wear them proudly for the remainder of their time at Grangetown.
Derwent Hill Weekend - 18th - 20th March 2022
Some of our Year 6 children enjoyed a fantastic fun filled weekend at Derwent Hill. They took part in activities such as the high ropes challenge, gorge walking and the famous big swing. The children enjoyed every minute and showed fantastic team work skills throughout.
Our Visit to Sunderland College - 15.3.22
A part of our whole school science week, Year 6 were given the opportunity to visit Sunderland College at Bede Campus. They were given a tour of a science lab where they were able to watch a science teacher complete some experiments in order to explain the chemical reactions involved in the manufacturing of fireworks. The children were also able to visit the immersive 360 igloo where they were shown images from countries all around the world. The children were also given the opportunity to explore what happens when we touch a plazma ball and how these can be used to turn on a light bulb. A fantastic day all round!
World Book Day
To celebrate world book day, the children were each given a plain white T-shirt and were asked to take inspiration from their favourite book in order to decorate it. The children came up with some excellent designs and wore their T-shirts with pride throughout the day.
Spring Term - WW2
Throughout the Spring term we have been learning all about live during the Second World War. We began by creating a timeline to show where the war is in relation to other time periods which we have learnt about in history lessons in previous years. We then learnt about Adolf Hitler and the events which led to the beginning of the war. We held a special themed day where the children came dressed as evacuees. We learnt all about life as a children during the war and what it was like to have essential items such as food and clothing rationed. We tasted some typical foods which would have been served during the war. The children now have a fantastic understanding of the events which happened during this period in history.
The children were very excited this morning at the arrival of their advent calendar. We have put all of our names into a raffle and are going to pick a name out each day to decide who gets the treat.
Autumn 2 -The Ship of Shadows
This half term the children have enjoyed our book 'The Ship of Shadows'. They have written their own versions of the story and have loved turning them into their own books, creating a fantastic piece of art work for the front cover.
Visit to Southmoor - 5.10.21
The children enjoyed a taster day at Southmoor. They were given the opportunity to take part in a variety of lessons including science, maths and psychology. They had a fantastic day and were praised for their fantastic behaviour and positive attitude towards learning. I was very proud of them all!
This half term we have been learning about the Victorians. We have learnt about the reign of Queen Victoria and the key events which she reigned during. We have learnt about the changes to hospitals during this time period and the influence which Florence Nightingale had on nursing. Our book this half term was Oliver Twist. We created our own newspaper reports linked to the book and were very proud of our work.
