Welcome to Miss BARNETT'S Class

Welcome to Year 1 with Miss Barnett and Miss Henry! We have 19 fantastic and enthusiastic children in Year 1 this year who are so eager to learn!

Key information and dates

  • We will visit the school library on a Tuesday. Please ensure your child brings their library book back to school every Tuesday.

  • PE is on a Wednesday afternoon. Children will need to wear the correct PE kit and ensure that all jewellery is removed.

  • Homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Tuesday.

  • Book bags, reading books and spelling books need to be brought into school every day!

  • On a Friday, we have a Woodlands afternoon. Children will need their woodlands kit (a letter has already been sent out about this). Their kit can be left in school for the half term.

  • Toast is available to buy on a Tuesday and Thursday and costs 10p per slice. On Friday's we have a Fruity Fantasy tuck shop which children can bring a maximum of 50p.

Woodland Adventures

We love our woodland sessions on a Friday afternoon in Year 1! We began to notice the changes in Autumn when the leaves began falling from the trees and we also noticed they turned different shades of brown, orange and red. We decided to make an Autumn leaf picture using leaves we found on the ground. Don't they look fabulous!

Post Office Visit 23.9.19

We really enjoyed visiting Grangetown Post Office today, linked to our class book 'The Jolly Postman'. On the way back, we even spotted the postman and his van! We bought different sized envelopes and boxes to use in our role play area at school!

18.9.19 Travelling Tuba

We were so lucky today to work with the Sunderland Music Hub in a 'Travelling Tuba' workshop! In a whole school assembly we learnt about instruments through the ages. Then, we attended a workshop where we got to play a range of fun musical instruments. We had so much fun and we have some excellent musicians in the making!

17.9.19 Bear Toast!

The children (and Miss Tose and Miss Henry) had so much fun this morning making bear toast. In our book 'The Jolly Postman', we have been reminded of the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We decided that we would make a new breakfast item and send the recipe to Goldilocks which might encourage her to stop stealing porridge! We had so much fun toasting, spreading, placing and eating!

September 2019

Me, myself and I!

I am so proud of how the children have settled back into school routines after a long summer holiday! We have enjoyed getting to know each other by finding out our likes and dislikes, talking about who lives in our house and thinking about what we want to be when we grow up!

Have a look at our first woodlands session! We have such a fun time exploring our school grounds!
