January - a discovery

We found some clues (footprints) and then we watched this video! We couldn't believe it! We spent time searching for more clues and making a trap. We had excellent discussions about where the dragon is from and where he might be going next.

January - the mysterious egg

We found a shiny egg in our classroom! We don't know what is inside. We have written predictions for what we think is inside. Is it a chick? A duck? A dragon?! Who knows!

January - Chinese New Year

Our topic this half-term is called 'Tails and Scales' and we have been learning all about dragons and then we will move onto learning about dinosaurs. Luckily, Chinese New Year fell onto our dragon topic, and what better way to learn about the dragon dance than by doing one ourselves? We played drums that we had made and danced around like a dragon. We also wrote fortunes and made fortune cookies and gave them to our friends. We enjoyed finding out which animal year it was that we were born in, too.

January - Judo

Welcome back to the Spring term! We had a very exciting first week back which included taking part in a special judo session with Adam from British Judo. We got to work in pairs to try out lots of new moves. We had lots of fun. Adam taught us the importance of only practising the judo moves when we are on a judo mat with a judo instructor. Some of the children were very talented at judo and wanted to join Adam's club. December - Nativity

Reception, Nursery and Flying Start were fantastic when performing 'The Easy Cheesy Nativity'! They worked very hard to learn their lines and songs and when to go on and off the stage. They did a great job of telling the Nativity story and had lots of fun whilst doing it. Well done boys and girls, you were all amazing!

December - Meet our elves!

When we arrived to school on 2nd December, we were greeted by two new friends - kindness elves! We have our very own kindness elves who bring us acts of kindness challenges everyday. So far, we have been making new friends, tidying up after each other and writing nice letters to each other. We hope we can impress our elves so they can pass on good messages to Santa.

November - Destination Celebration

Our new topic for Autumn 2 is called 'Destination Celebration'. We are starting the topic by learning about space and aliens. We are currently on the hunt for an alien. We found a video on CCTV of a spaceship flying above school. Have you seen any clues?

October - Our Spooktacular Party

Reception, Nursery and Flying Start had a fantastic last day of the half-term for our 'Spooktacular Day'. We all came to school dressed in our Halloween outfits ready for a busy day. We enjoyed dancing to spooky music, playing musical statues, apple bobbing, wrapping toilet roll around our friends to turn them into mummies, going on a sweetie hunt and eating pumpkin soup and our mummy biscuits. We had lots of fun. I can't wait to see what we get up to during the next half-term!

October - Harvest Festival

Reception worked very hard on their harvest song, learning the words and actions. They were very excited to perform it to their grown ups. Didn't they do a fantastic job?

October - Backhouse Park

We went on our first trip! The children were very excited to go on their first trip this week. They came to school in their wellies and waterproofs ready for a rainy walk to Backhouse Park. We walked carefully all of the way there, making sure we stayed with our partner. When we got there, we had a long walk, running up the hills, watching the leaves fall, finding conkers and dropping sticks into the stream then watching them come out of the other side. On the way back to school, we posted the letters we had written. They are on their way to our houses. We can't wait for them to arrive! We enjoyed looking at the pictures from our walk when we got back to school. The children were very well behaved and made Miss Beetham very proud.

October - The Three Little Pigs

We have learnt a new story over the past few weeks. We first were surprised to find some clues in our classroom which were footprints, bricks, sticks and hay. We then read the story 'The Three Little Pigs'. We learnt the story off by heart and created a story map to help us retell the story. We have enjoyed playing with the masks from the story, making pig masks, changing the story to add our own characters in and completing an experiment testing which materials would blow down.

September - We are family!

We have been learning all about our families. We enjoyed sharing photographs from when we were babies, looking at the differences and similarities. We discussed who we live with, not forgetting to include our pets! The children drew their own family picture and then made a lovely frame out of lolly sticks - how creative! They are hanging off our family tree in the cloakroom. Don't they look lovely?

September - Self-portraits

As part of our topic, 'Me, Myself and I', Reception have been looking at their faces and their body parts. We discussed our hair and eye colour, comparing these to each other. They first took a selfie, then painted their self-portrait before finally writing their name next to it in their workbooks. Their self-portraits are now proudly displayed in our cloakroom. Come in and have a look!

September - We made it!

Reception had their very first PE lesson on their first full week. Many children had a good go at getting ready independently, taking their jumpers off by themselves. Some children even tried their buttons without any help! In PE, we worked on finding a space and moving with control. We enjoyed playing 'traffic lights' and moving our bodies in many different ways! I can already tell the children are going to thrive in PE this year!

Our first week in Reception

We have had a fantastic first week in Reception. The children have settled in very well and have enjoyed exploring the areas in the unit. We have enjoyed sharing our summer holidays bags and learning about each other.

Welcome!

A big warm welcome to all of our children, parents and carers. I hope you have had a fantastic 6 weeks holiday and are ready for the year ahead. Miss Pickering and I can't wait to welcome you all in on Wednesday 4th September. I am sure we are going to have a fantastic year filled with lots of learning and fun! This page will be updated with notices and photographs so you can keep up to date with what your child has been up to/has planned.

I look forward to working together with you all.

Miss Beetham :)
