The World Cup gets underway in South Africa on 11 June. Every class at Grangetown will be adopting a World Cup nation, and learning lots about the culture of that country.

Our children will learn about food, customs, dance, school, traditions, stories, daily life, toys & games...and much more.

There will be lots of enriching learning opportunities, covering writing, speaking & listening, role play and drama, maths, geography, history, languages, PSHE, PE and art....and more!

And, of course, our children will gain an insight into a range of other cultures, developing an understanding of just what a diverse and wonderful world we live in - and realising as well that our international neighbours have much in common with us here in Sunderland.

We will build-in opportunities for our pupils to meet visitors from the nation they are studying, and hopefully too to videoconference with children from their chosen country!

On match days, our big screen in the hall - complete with free-view - will be available to transport us into the heart of the action in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and all of the other world cup venues. Wow!

We are very excited about this project and can't wait for the 'big kick-off'! Check back soon for updates.
