World Cup tournament

On a scorching hot day our football team travelled to Russia (Farringdon) to compete in the Schools’ World Cup Tournament.

We were playing as Germany, and our first group game was against Mexico (St Leonards). Our boys played some fantastic football in this game winning by 5 goals to nil.

Next up was France (English Martyrs) - this was an exciting end to end game with both teams giving their all to win. The result was a 3 all draw.

These two results saw us top the group and progress to the quarter final.

Our quarter final game was against Sweden (Highfield). Germany (Grangetown) opened the scoring only for Sweden (Highfield) to equalise shortly after. We scored again and once again Sweden equalised. We then took control of the match, the result being a 6 - 2 win for us.

Waiting for us in the semi-final was a very strong Belgium (Dame Dorothy). This was a very exciting end to end game but we just couldn’t find the back of the net. The result - a 6 - 0 win for Belgium - signalled the end of our world cup adventure.

The organisers of the tournament commented on how good the behaviour and sportsmanship of our team had been. Our boys can be very proud of themselves not only for these comments but for also reaching The World Cup semi-final.
