Blast from the Past!

Our topic in Y2 is called Blast from the Past.  The children are comparing life in the past to the modern day.

We are reading a story called, ‘Daisy Saves the Day’, about a little girl who is sent away to work as a scullery maid. Through this story, we have been able to imagine what life was like for children 100 years ago.

The children have predicted and wrote their own ending to the story, thinking of brilliant ideas of how Daisy became heroic.

We have also been writing letters home to her family explaining how hard life was as a child scullery maid.

We have looked at the toys children would have played with and begun to make our own hand puppets.

In music the children have been learning Victorian street calls and practicing a song to accompany this.

We will end our topic by visiting Beamish Museum, soon, where we will get to experience first-hand what life was like in the past.
