A 'Rock Pool Ramble' for Year 2!

Rock pooling

On Monday 2nd July, Year 2 went to Roker Beach to take part in beach exploration activities.

When we arrived we met our guide Helen. We then went on a scavenger hunt to see what we could find. We found lots of interesting things like limpet shells, sea glass and mermaid’s hair.

Next we had our lunch on the grass but some sneaky seagulls tried to steal it (which reminded us of a story about a Lighthouse Keeper...!)

After that we walked further along the beach as the tide had gone out. It left behind lots of rock pools. Helen gave us some trays, nets and a rock pool guide. She told us to be careful because the seaweed was slippery. We used our nets to catch different creatures including crabs, periwinkles and dog whelks.

The sun had his hat on all day and everybody enjoyed themselves.
