Y1 had a fantastic superhero themed day. We completed many superhero activities on themed tables. On the Ironman table we explored which materials were magnetic using magnets. The storm table completed an experiment by dropping colored water into shaving foam, watching the 'rain' fall through the clouds'. The Spider-Man table used tweezers to catch spiders through a web and through balls at a sticky spider web. Finally the superman table made flying helicopters. After all of our experiments we had a surprise visit from Ironman! He visited to help us make magnetic slime. We helped him make it and then watched it move with the magnets.

Every Friday we have been visiting the school woodland area. We have been completing different science experiments relating to materials and have been watching seasonal changes in the environment. We also made superhero pictures using natural materials.

As part of our superheroes topic we have been learning about 'real life heroes'. We visited Sunderland fire station to learn about the role of a firefighter. Whilst there we got to see their office and gym. We also had the opportunity to try on their uniform and sit in the fire engine. We had lots of questions to ask and really enjoyed learning about their job. Outside we spent time looking at their training room and we were allowed to have a go at using the hose! We had a fantastic morning and Miss Lambton was very impressed with our behavior. Well done Year 1!
