Shadow Puppet Day!

On 13th October, we had a visitor in school called Pui Lee, a very talented freelance artist. She showed us how to make our own shadow puppet show. The children worked in groups to create their own characters and design their own storyboards. Linking with our topic, the children used their knowledge of shadows and light sources to help create their puppets. Myself and Miss Henry were very impressed with the finished products, the children worked very hard and proved that they had lots of creativity to design, make and perform their shows! Well done Year 3!

Broomhouse Farm

On the 5th October, Year Three had a fantastic day at Broomhouse Farm. We were welcomed by Ruth who then took us round the working farm, it was a lovely autumnal day. All of the children held a hen and even picked some eggs fresh from their hut!  We visited the pigs and were fortunate to see some new born piglets, they were adorable. The children had a very fun afternoon in the Forest Adventure (even Miss Henry, Miss Edwards and Miss Cole had a turn on the zip line!) A big Thank You to Broomhouse Farm for having us. An excellent day, very proud of the way the children behaved. Well done Year Three! We are looking forward to returning in Spring.

I'm Not afraid of the dark!

Year 3's first topic of the new school year has been I'm Not Afraid of The Dark! As a science lead topic, the children have been learning all about light and dark. We have been looking at natural and artificial light, identifying different light sources and looking into how shadows are formed. In Art, we have been recreating Van Gogh' painting 'A Starry Starry Night'- Miss Edwards thinks they are better than the real thing! In DT we have been learning how to create shadow puppets. In English we have been reading The Tunnel by Anthony Browne, and have worked very hard to plan and write our own four part story. We have also been studying a main character in the story to be able to plan and write our own diary entry. Miss Edwards is very proud of the children and how they have worked at their best ability.
