SPRING 2

Our topic this term is ‘Oh I do Like to be Beside the seaside’. ” We will be learning all about the seaside including its history, costal features and its animal inhabitants.

We started this term with a chilly but fantastic trip to Souter light house. The children spent the day exploring the beach when we took a stroll down Marsden Grotto where we built sandcastles, played games and dipped our feet in the North Sea. We then took the 79 step journey to the top of the lighthouse to view the seaside from the highest point on the coast. It was a brilliant trip filled with fun and learning.

SPRING TERM 2015

Welcome to the Spring Term. Our topic this half term topic is 'Wear Wonderful'.  During this topic the children will be learning all about Sunderland and the surrounding area. We have started the topic with a fabulous tour around Sunderland. The first stop on our tour was the Stadium of Light where we saw some famous memorabilia and got a sneaky backstage look behind the stadiums golden doors. We then explored the Winter Gardens where we made our way through the tropical jungle and learned all about the history of coal mining and ship building in the north east. Our last stop on the tour was the Glass Centre where the children learned about glass blowing, took part in a live wave exhibit and took a stroll out on to the sheer glass roof to observe the fantastic river views.

Gym-fantastic

On Wednesday 10th December year 2 and year 5 took part in a gymnastics festival in a celebration of the sport at Sunderland University. Both classes trained hard for four weeks prior to the event and this concluded in a brilliant gymnastic routine performance, alongside and in front of other local schools.

Congratulations year 2 and year 5 you were absolute superstars in the gymnastic festival. You performed your routines so well and made Grangetown Primary school very proud.

Creative Christmas Crafts

Just to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the year2C parent’s workshop on Monday 8th December. The children worked so hard, produced some fabulous festive creations and had a lot of fun in the process (we hope you did too!!).

AUTUMN 2

This term our topic is called 'Tickle Those Taste Buds!’, we will be learning all about food including where it comes from, how it is made and what kinds of food make a healthy balanced diet.

We have started this yummy half term topic with a visit to Tesco where the children learned all about how food is produced for a supermarket. We got to touch, taste and explore lots of different products (even made our own pancakes in the bakery), and we learned some amazing facts. For example did you know that a banana is actually an herb and a cucumber a fruit, who knew?

Coming up on our food journey is a visit to Toby Carvery where for one day we will be taking up the role of head chef helping to prepare, cook and then eat our own nutritious meal.

Throughout the term we will be sharing lots more of our fabulous activities and letting you know how our learning journey progresses this half term, so watch this space.

AUTUMN 1

We have had an absolutely wonderful start to the school year studying and exploring our autumn topic of 'Working 9 to 5'.

To start the topic we visited Beamish Museum and learnt all about jobs and lifestyles of the past in the North East of England. We have recently took on the role of investigative journalists researching a variety of jobs for a class report and to finish off the term we will be strapping on our dancing shoes and performing a routine to the infamous Dolly Parton’s 9-5.

Happy Halloween Fun

What a brilliant day we had in year 2, it started with a fantastic morning walking and running around the field completing our charity mile. Well done everyone for the amazing effort and the great turn out. We followed that fabulous morning with the spook-tastic disco, where we danced, played games, ate cakes and jelly brains! What a great way to end our first half term.
