Miss Hough's Class

Hello and welcome to Miss Hough and Miss Duggan's class page.

We have 23 wonderful year 1 and 2 pupils who all have a great attitude to learning and school.

Welcome to the Autumn term! We are looking forward to the exciting activities we have planned for this term in Key Stage One.

Coming up this term we will be having fun exploring the topic of ‘Castles and Kingdoms’ before moving onto ‘Winter Wonderland’. Our main focus will be developing geographical and historical skills, learning about life in the medieval period and famous castles in the UK.

As part of our topic we have looked at the famous artist Paul Klee and used some of his techniques to create our own pictures. We have used what we have learnt to make our own 'Castles in the Sun' painting.

This week (21.10.13) we've celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of our school building. We have been doing lots of exciting activities to recognise this. To start the week we released 10, message filled balloons per class (as you can see from the photo below). We are now waiting to see if we get any replies. We did talk about where they might end up and some of the class thought the balloons might get to Japan!

We also had fun making and eating a class cake and indiviudal cup cakes for the party! (See the photo below)

We have been doing lots of exciting christmas activities this week (16.12.13). Some of these include; taking part in a music workshop, performing our nativity, watching a snow queen production and celebrating with a Christmas party. We would like to share some of our photos with you!

Spring Term 1

This term our new topic is 'Winter Wonderland'!

We have started to look at Winter animals and those that we might see in our local environment. We have been making bird feeders to help provide food for the Winter.

Spring Term 2

This term our topic is 'Under the Sea'. So far we have visited the Sealife Centre in Tynemouth, made 'Bright Stanley' fish, designed and made a treasure map and we have discovered the animals that live there. Here are some photographs that we would like to share with you!

Summer Term

This term our new topic is called 'The Great Outdoors'. To start our topic we planted cress seeds and waited for them to grow! The cress was used in Literacy to follow instructions to make an egg and cress sandwich. We have also been busy collecting mud and twigs to make a mud picture :-)

To help us understand about plants, we walked to Backhouse Park to collect leaves that had already fallen. We are going to use these to find out the names of different trees.

Here is a photo of Year 1 sitting in the sunshine!

Today (9.6.14) we have spent our afternoon planting sunflower seeds and researching different trees. We will insert of photograph when our seeds have started to grow.

We have been taking very good care of our sunflower plants! On Monday (23.6.14) we got to plant them outside in the courtyard.

We have many exciting activities planned over the remaining three weeks, here is a list below:
