Taylor Mali

"What Do Teachers Make?" Inspirational words from poet Taylor Mali. 'Born in New York City in 1965, Taylor Mali is a vocal advocate of teachers and the nobility of teaching, having himself spent nine years in the classroom teaching everything from English and history to math and S.A.T. test preparation' (from the Bio on his website, here).

Little Humans at a South African Orphanage. We used the book 'Little Humans', by Brandon Stanton, in one of our staff development sessions. We also shared this inspiring video, filmed at the Langbos Creche & Care Centre in Addo, South Africa, showing children and staff sharing the book. Why Every Child Needs a Champion, a short and inspiring TED talk from Rita Pierson. A rousing call to educators to believe in their students and connect with them on a real, human, personal level. And, a motivational message to help teachers stay strong at a time when the profession is facing significant challenge. Just as each child needs a Champion, so too do teachers - they inspire, they work tirelessly every day, and they help all children to shine.

"Here's To The Crazy Ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world - are the ones who DO!" Apple's 'Think Different' commercial, narrated by Steve Jobs.

 Jessica Ennis

We loved watching Jessica Ennis in Assembly today, winning Olympic gold! The children clapped and cheered, imagining themselves in a packed stadium! We think Jessica Ennis - and all of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes - are an absolute inspiration. This year at GPS we are adopting the slogan 'Going for Gold', to remind us to always try our very best!
